Poster Abstract Submission Guidelines

SOCSS Poster Sessions are judged by members of the SOCSS and Journal of Drugs in Dermatology (JDD) Advisory Boards.

How to Submit a Poster:

Review Process:

Submitting parties receive automatic notification that the poster submission has been received. However, due to the high volume of submissions, additional acknowledgement may not be sent unless the poster is accepted by the review committee.

Abstract submissions are reviewed by a committee comprised of healthcare professionals serving on the SOCSS and Journal of Drugs in Dermatology advisory boards. Conference managers also review all abstracts. Content is evaluated based on the quality and relevance of topic, educational value, timeliness, and clearly identified objectives. SOCSS reserves the right to make final decisions regarding acceptance of abstracts for poster presentation sessions.

Conference Fees:

Dermatology resident physicians, fellows, practicing dermatologists, pharmaceutical companies, researchers, analysts, technology providers and consultants whose posters are accepted for presenting are given a reduced registration fee of 50%.
*Once your poster has been accepted, you will be given information on how to register for SOCSS as a Poster Presenter.

Poster Presentation:

Posters must meet the following guidelines to be considered:

Poster font should be large enough so that it can be easily read from a distance.
Mounting Materials will be provided by the SOCSS Organizers.
Please ensure that your poster is displayed on the correct poster board indicated by your assigned poster number. Do not write or paint on the poster boards.

Poster Mounting and Display Times for SOCSS NY:

Posters must be mounted on April 14, 2012 between 6:00 - 7:00 AM.
Posters must remain displayed until the close of General Session.

Poster Mounting and Display Times for SOCSS Las Vegas:

Posters must be mounted on June 2, 2012 between 6:00 - 7:00 AM.
Posters must remain displayed until the close of General Session.

If poster is selected, authors agree to:

Present information in an objective manner without bias to a particular company, program, or product.
Information in the abstract submission may be reproduced for use in conference materials including the electronic presentations (PDF only) and printed documentation.

Target Audience
This CME activity is designed for practicing dermatologists, dermatology residents and fellows, and allied health professionals with an interest in improving skin of color patient outcomes in Dermatology.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this CME activity, participants will be able to:

Identify the top dermatological issues for patients with skin of color.
Distinguish the prominent differences between skin of color and Caucasian skin and how each reacts to acne, melasma, rosacea, and laser treatments.
Formulate informed treatment regimens for patients with skin of color.
Classify skin of color on at least one established scale.
Contrast treatment regimens for Caucasian and skin of color patients.
Determine the efficacy and safety of laser use in patients with skin types of IV to VI, with fewer risks of epidermal adverse events.
Assess appropriate laser settings for treatments of skin of color patients.
Explain how fillers and neurotoxins must be utilized with specific patient populations in mind.
Discuss the importance of sun protection specialized treatment regimens for skin of color patients.
Indicate the importance of patient compliance and adherence to sunscreen use.
Distinguish the differences between skin of color and Caucasian skin in regards to skin cancer incidence and clinical presentation.
Recognize best treatment options for skin rejuvenation and skin aging for patients with pigmented skin.
Detect and manage common skin conditions in skin of color pediatric patients.
